Total cargo shipped on the St. Lawrence Seaway is down 4.15 percent from 2015 year-to-date figures.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation reports, with May figures included, that vessel transits were also down through May this year from 2015 through May by 1.47 percent.
Total cargo shipped along the Seaway was off by 282,000 tons from last year’s count through May.
Liquid bulk cargo was up substantially, by 111,000 metric tons, or 18.32 percent.
General cargo was down the most, off by 109,000 metric tons, or 17.69 percent.
Dry bulk was also up by 4.85 percent, or 90,000 tons.
All other categories – grain, iron ore, and coal – were down from totals reported through May of last year.
