Mayor of Gouverneur says tax breaks in state budget brings 'much needed property tax relief'

GOUVERNEUR -- Gouverneur Mayor Ronald McDougall is praising state legislators and Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for passing a state budget that includes tax breaks and school reforms.

In a statement issued Monday, McDougall said the budget brings much needed property tax relief.

“As mayor of Gouverneur, I know the importance of balancing fiscal responsibility with the needs of my constituents – that’s why I am very excited by the news of a budget agreement between Governor Cuomo and the leaders of the State legislature,” McDougall said. “This budget tackles one of our biggest challenges by providing property tax relief to our hard-pressed homeowners while also pushing government to be more efficient. On top of that, it includes a major investment in the public education system, from pre-K to common core reforms, which will ensure that every child is given the opportunities they deserve.”

The budget was also praised by St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators Chairman Jonathan Putney and Clarkson University President Anthony Collins. See their comments at
