MASSENA -- Town & Country Vet Clinic, which opened its third location in Massena earlier this year, will host a grand opening Sept. 10.

The vet clinic opened Jan. 18 in the former Ponderosa building at 341 Main St., Jodie Horton, practice manager said.

“Everything was gutted … new roof and siding … right down to the bare cement walls,” she said.

Town and County Vet Clinic also has locations at 904 County Route 4 in Ogdensburg and 6890 U.S. Highway 11 in Potsdam.

“We are trying to capture business in all of St. Lawrence County,” Horton said.

Horton said the clinic was seeing a lot of Canadian customers at their Ogdensburg location, due to cheaper vet bills in New York versus Canada. They are hoping the trend continues with Quebec residents seeking vet care.

The clinic is run by Dr. Jack Zeh and his staff. Dr. Zeh has over 30 years experience as a vet.

Zeh, originally from Horseheads, visited a family farm in Canto often and knew as a child that he wanted to be a veterinarian, Horton said. He now resides in Russell.

Dogs and cats are treated at the clinic, along with farm animals and even some reptiles.

Horton said they have a couple veterinarians who are willing to treat reptiles and that house calls can be made to farms if needed.

“Things are going well … kind of surprised at the people we are getting,” she said.

She credits the strong start to state of the art dental equipment, in-house blood tests and laser surgey.

“Everything is brand new,” she said.

About four or five people work at the new clinic, with plans to hire more people as the business grows, Horton said.

During the grand opening celebration the clinic will offer a free day of fun and giveaways for all ages.

The event takes place rain or shine from noon to 4 p.m. with two bounce houses, food, and a petting zoo featuring miniature horse, a donkey, a calf, a goat, turkey and other birds.

There will also be vendors, raffles, games and a reduced price on micro-chips. The cost of $65 will be reduced to $40, while supplies last.

New clients who attend will receive 10 percent off their first bill and current customers who attend the grand opening get a $5 credit on their account. A booth will be set up for this.

The Massena Humane Society will be on hand with some of their adoptable pets as well. A 50/50 raffle will benefit the humane society.

All three Town & Country Vet Clinic locations are open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
