MASSENA -- The Board of Trustees believes they have solved the wastewater sludge hauling issue and picked Casella Waste Services, Potsdam for the job. Public Works Superintendent Hassan Fayad said the move should save the village upwards of a $250,000 over the next five years.
“It’s a substantial savings,” he said.
The village had been using We Care Organics, Rochester to carry about 1,200 tons annually at a price of $122.65 per ton. They had been using a disposal facility in Rodman.
Casella will do the same job for $79.59 per ton; Fayad said they use a facility in Chateaugay, cutting back on transport cost.
He showed a spreadsheet that says the village will save $51,670 the first year with Casella, which will steadily rise to a $55,861.37 savings in year five. The total five-year savings, according to Fayad’s table, will be $268,745.63.
