MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital will have a new chief financial officer on Monday.

Patrick Facteau, who has more than three decades of healthcare finance experience in New York State, has accepted the position and comes most recently from Auburn Hospital.

He replaces Interim CFO Charles Gijanto, who temporarily held the post following former CFO James Smith’s retirement a couple of months ago.

Facteau is originally from Tupper Lake.

“Pat's selection concludes a national search which focused on candidates with extensive New York reimbursement experience, a thorough knowledge of rural hospital issues, demonstrated performance in challenging financial situations and a desire to live in the North Country,” Massena Memorial Hospital CEO Bob Wolleben said.

Facteau has been Adirondack Medical Center chief financial officer and, before that, CFO at several Hospital Corporation of America facilities.

Most recently he helped Auburn Hospital emerge from a Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.

He has experience in a variety of health care settings, such as community hospitals, specialty facilities and medical homes. He has worked in financial services management, program and systems development, revenue improvement, managed care strategy, construction and remodeling projects, and capital planning. He is skilled in insurance contracting, negotiating, and Medicare appeals, and knows the reimbursement system in New York State, according to the announcement from MMH.

“I am looking forward to working at Massena Memorial and believe I will be a good part of the team,” Facteau said. “I love working in rural healthcare. I have worked for large health industry such as the Healthcare Corporation of American and really prefer working for a community based hospital” such as Massena Memorial, he said.

Facteau earned his bachelor of science in accounting from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Iroquois Hospital Association and Adirondack Economic Development Corporation.

He will join the MMH administrative team on Monday, Aug. 3.
