MASSENA -- The village will hold a public hearing Nov. 15 on a proposal to rezone the old DPW on South Main Street so a new business can move in.

The village is looking at selling the lot to St. Lawrence Soyway Co. LLC, who will turn it into a soybean processing facility.

Mayor Tim Currier said they are “in final stages of making final edits” to a sale contract, which is anticipated to bring in $181,455.

At the hearing, they will declare the lot surplus and look at rezoning it to planned industrial development. Right now, it is part planned industrial development and part commercial.

The village is looking at moving DPW operations to a new lot on Urban Drive, which drew the ire of more than 25 residents when the proposal was announced earlier in the year.

Trustee Tim Ahlfeld said there will be a second public hearing to iron out those details.

“That will be at a public meeting with input, guarantee it,” Ahlfeld said to a concerned citizen who did not identify herself during public comment. “The best part about public meetings is everyone hears the same thing … you may not agree with the decision, but nobody’s going to have any questions.”
