Massena Chamber 2011 ornament honors former Holy Family High School

MASSENA – The Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2011 Massena Holiday Ornament is now available at the chamber office.

This year’s design for the holiday ornament was chosen to honor the Holy Family Catholic High School which was built 50 years ago.

The drawing was the eighth in a series from old photographs of Massena done by local artist Cecilia Dewey. Cecilia has received awards for her work in numerous shows mainly in the North Country.

Ground breaking for the Holy Family High School was held in April 1960, with completion scheduled for January 1961.

The graduation classes from the school each year averaged around 100 students. Due to economic reasons, the school closed after graduation in June 1975.

The school was purchased by Massena Central School District and is now known as the J. W. Leary Junior High School.

This year’s ornament is priced at $8 (includes tax) and can be purchased at the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce Office, 50 Main St. (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Want to ship one to a loved one; the chamber also has shipping boxes available for purchase.
