The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County was down for the second straight month in March, according to figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor.
The jobless rate in the county stood at 10.8 percent in March, compared to 11.4 percent in February and 12.1 percent in January.
It also better than the jobless rate in March of last year, when it stood at 11.3 percent.
The story is about the same in neighboring counties.
In Franklin County, to our east, the rate for March was 10.6 percent, while it was 11.4 percent in February and 11.8 percent in January. In March 2012, the jobless rate in Franklin County was 10.7 percent.
And to our west in Jefferson County, the rate was 11.5 percent in March, 12.2 percent in February, and 12.3 percent in January. In March 2012, the Jefferson County rate was 11.6 percent.
The figures released today are not adjusted for typical seasonal variation, according to the DOL.
