POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce has been organizing upcoming events for the holiday season including a local shopping day, a gift wrapping station and Merry Tuba Concert.

“The Shop Small Passport we are putting together is an activity that highlights our businesses that provide a unique experience and products to their customers,” chamber director Marylee Ballou said “The passport also provides customers with extra incentives to shop small and local by providing the chance to win prizes.”

Passports will be available at the Potsdam Chamber office, 24 Market St., and at the participating passport businesses starting Saturday, Nov. 28, which is Small Business Saturday.

“When a person makes a purchase at any of the listed businesses between November 28 and December 12 his/her passport will be stamped. Passports turned in at the chamber office receive entries into a drawing for prize baskets composed of items donated from the passport businesses. The number of entries they receive will be based on the number of “stamps” collected,” Ballou said.

For a second year, the chamber will offer a gift wrapping station at their office on several Saturdays including Nov. 28, Dec. 12, and Dec. 19. Anyone who shows a receipt for items purchased at chamber member businesses can have up to three gifts per store wrapped for free. If the business is not a chamber member they can still have every three gifts wrapped for a $2 fee.

If any individuals or organizations would like to volunteer at the wrapping station, they can call the chamber office at 274-9000.

The Potsdam Chamber’s musical offering for the holidays will be the 6th Merry Tuba Christmas concert on Dec. 12.

“The concert has been greatly appreciated by the community and local tuba/euphonium players,” Ballou said.

The 4 p.m. concert will be at the Potsdam United Methodist Church, 26 Main St. The concert is free but donations are accepted to benefit a local charity.

Any tuba/euphonium players wishing to play the concert can arrive for registration and rehearsal Dec. 12 at 12:30 pm. Rehearsal is from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church.

A business window display contest will once again offer a friendly competition.

Displays need to be registered with the chamber office in time for judging the evening of Dec. 12. The first place display will win that business a pizza party.

“An added benefit of the contest is how it helps decorate the village for the holidays,” said chamber board director Janice Adderley who has judged the windows in the past.
