OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce named Hoosier Magnetics its Business of the Quarter for the third quarter of this year.

Hoosier Magnetics has been a member of the Ogdensburg community for over 30 years, employing more than 35 people.

They make the ferrite powder that magnets are made from. They ship their product via rail, trucks and ocean containers to their customers located all around the world often using the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, the chamber said.

“Selection of Hoosier Magnetics, Inc. was based on the following criteria: Hoosier Magnetics has made improvements to the business which enhanced the community such as going above environmental standards to further maintain air pollution controls; upgraded to a new kiln; improving the maintenance building and shower facility for their employees and making their landscaping more pleasing in the neighborhood. They have shown growth in sales and in the products and services offered. A few years ago, Hoosier Magnetics consolidated their manufacturing operations from Italy, Indiana and Ohio into the Ogdensburg plant which produces as much product as all four plants did once combined. Hoosier Magnetics chose to stay in Ogdensburg because of the excellent work ethic of the employees at the Ogdensburg plant, according to a news release from the chamber. “They work hard to be a good neighbor in our community by supporting local businesses in Ogdensburg and surrounding communities. They “shop local” whenever they can. They utilize waste water from the Ogdensburg Water Treatment plant to cool their equipment thereby recycling the water and providing a much needed environmental benefit to the city. They have an outstanding safety program with a trained Safety Coordinator who provides annual training to their employees in-house to comply with OSHA Safety Regulations and with the ongoing commitment to keeping their employees safe at all times. They support local charities and service organizations like the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club; Ogdensburg Area Zonta Club; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; St. Lawrence Valley S.P.C.A.; Ogdensburg Police Department D.A.R.E Program; Mountain Warriors; Shriners, Ogdensburg Free Academy; Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce – just to name a few.”

The chamber takes nominations for the business of the quarter award. More info: 315-393-3620 or www.ogdensburgny.com.
