HEUVELTON – David McCadam, of the McCadam Cheese family, will donate an additional $100,000 for the Pickens Hall Restoration if the Heuvelton Historical Association can raise $200,000 from the community.

Heuvelton Historical Association has been in the process of restoring Pickens Hall at 83 State St. since 2001.

McCadam has donated $100,000 already and will double his gift if the HHA can raise $200,000 in other gifts and pledges by Nov. 18, 2014, according to president David Kingsley.

“Thanks to Heuvelton native David McCadam of the McCadam Cheese Company family, you have a great way to help ‘finish the race’ by the end of this year,” Kingsley said,

Pickens Hall opened its doors in 1858. It was built by John Pickens Sr., one of the region’s early entrepreneurs.

The massive three-story structure was the center of civic, commercial, musical and theatrical performances of the time.

Pickens Hall has received many grants and donations from the community.

HHA is now getting ready to finish the crowing glory, the third floor.

The third floor was referred to as the Heuvelton Opera House and hosted many performances from traveling theater groups.

“Heuvelton Historical Association enters the home stretch with the Pickens Hall McCadam fundraising Challenge," Linda Marshall, HHA trustee, said.
