NORWOOD -- Construction of 16 two-bedroom apartments for senior citizens is officially underway.

Officials held a groundbreaking recently and workers started clearing the land on Baldwin Avenue for the new 16-unit housing project going up adjacent to the existing Baldwin Acres.

Members of the Baldwin Acres Board of Directors were at the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, May 18 in which the late Mayor Jim McFaddin, also a Baldwin Acres board members, conducted one of his last public duties before his passing just days later.

Richard McGinn of Heritage Homes Massena is the contractor, who will build 16 new units each containing two bedrooms and a full bathroom. Kitchens will include a microwave, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Washers and dryers are also included in the units. There are no income limits for these units, which are not government subsidized.

Expected completion date is mid-October.

Mayor McFaddin was particularly proud that empty land is being developed and the building will be a significant addition to the tax roles.

The apartments will be managed by Renewal Housing Corporation.
