OGDENSBURG – The reenactors who were part of Founders Day activities at Fort la Presentation this past weekend walked from the fort to the GreenMarket in Library Park dressed in their period attire to shop in an open air market much as was done in the early 1800s.
The market also welcomed the CHMC Auxiliary’ handcrafters group and an Amish farmer to the market, joining another new member from the week before, Tim McGill who sold out of his home made donuts and cinnamon buns.
The reenactors found the season’s first sugar snap peas, green beans, cabbage, kale, garlic scapes, radishes, carrots, Swiss chard and broccoli rabe, greens and romaine lettuce, salad mix, green onions, new potatoes and parsley.
There were fresh baked breads, pies, cookies, donuts, cinnamon buns, whoopee pies, jams, jellies and granola, and dog treats from a recipe by Jane Wright and baked by Joe Metz and Sean Fay.
The market also offers handcrafted scarves, towels, flip-flops, photography, art, fresh eggs, pork, lamb and beef, and much more.
Used library books are for sale in a wide variety of subjects for young and old.
The Ogdensburg GreenMarket is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Library Park. WIC, Food Stamps and Senior Coupons are accepted. The market’s bonus program adds additional savings to Food Stamp purchases and the Healthy Bucks program gives buyers two $2 checks for fruits and vegetables for every $10 worth of Food Stamp purchases.
Those who are interested in becoming a vendor at the busy market may call Sandy Porter at the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce, 393-3620.
