The following story originally appeared as a “Progress 2016” story in North Country This Week.

MASSENA -- The Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce's objectives are to promote Massena, economic growth, partner with local government, and be an information clearinghouse.

With these objectives in mind, during 2016 we will continue to work on improving and adding new ways of promoting Massena and our chamber members. As well, one of our top priorities is to improve and add new membership benefits.

During 2015 we welcomed a new executive director, Nathan Lashomb; 38 new members; and an office assistant, Mollie Lagrow.

Our Director's Vlog was introduced, which highlighted upcoming chamber events, community events and our members. As well, the Made in Massena Videos highlight our Member of the Month.

Both of these were introduced via our Facebook page and have reached upwards of 10,600 people and since their inception, our Facebook page 'likes' have grown by 41 percent.

A recap of our 2015 events included having U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik as our guest speaker at the Annual Dinner, the Heritage Festival brought back carnival rides, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Locks & Gift Store welcomed 57,000 visitors, and the Harvest Festival had an entertainment stage and haunted walk through the Downtown Theater.

Work was ongoing to get the Chamber Event Center ready for use as a conference room, seminar location, community room, etc.

Looking ahead to 2016, the chamber is already working on our Annual Dinner with entertainment provided by a motivational speaker/comedian. Concerts in the Park have expanded to 11 concerts. The Heritage Festival is continuing to grow by including an outside entertainment stage hosting local bands and a concert by Wanted: The Bon Jovi Tribute Band.

The chamber is continuing to work on a variety of business and educational seminars to offer. We will continue to look at opportunities to promote our community, attractions and businesses to tourist.
