GOUVERNEUR – Kinney Drugs, Inc., the drug store chain founded by B.O. Kinney with a single store in Gouverneur more than 100 years ago, is changing its name and corporate logo.
But don’t expect big changes in the logo and signs on the Kinney Drugs stores in Canton, Potsdam, Massena, Ogdensburg, Gouverneur, and elsewhere in northern and central New York and Vermont
The new name, officially adopted April 1, is KPH Healthcare Services, Inc.
“Our new name reflects the evolution of our Company from one that operates a chain of retail drug stores into one that offers a diverse assortment of pharmacy-related health care services,” the announcement from the company said.
In addition to operating Kinney Drug Stores, Kinney Drugs runs HealthDirect Institutional Pharmacy Services that serves long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, group homes, county and state correctional facilities, and addiction and mental health residences.
Another Kinney division is ProAct Pharmacy Benefit Management that provides mail-order prescription fulfillment for many large employer health insurance plans in the region.
“There has been no change in the ownership structure of the Company, and no other operational changes have occurred,” the statement said.
“This is a corporate name change only and will not affect the identity of our divisions,” said Jennifer Whalen, director of marketing. “Each will continue to use their current logos and will maintain their brand distinction, including the familiar Kinney Drugs name and logo long associated with our drugstores. All Kinney Drugs store signage will remain the same.”
