As a former county clerk, Sen. Ritchie votes to modernize real estate transactions

Patty Ritchie, St. Lawrence County Clerk before her election to the state Senate in November, has voted to help county clerks across the state reduce costs and make their offices more efficient by allowing them to accept electronically recorded property transfers.

Bill S2373 gives counties the option of allowing county offices and real estate professionals to use the Internet to transfer real estate records.

It reduces paperwork, personnel time, travel and postage. The bill passed the Senate and awaits action in the Assembly.

“When I served as the President of the New York State Association of County Clerks, I urged the state legislature to help reduce the cost of local government by modernizing how real estate transactions are handled by giving counties the option of allowing the use of electronic recording,” Ritchie said.

“This bill I cosponsored will reduce costs to local governments, title offices, banks, attorneys and real estate professionals,” she said.
