Although fewer people were working in St. Lawrence County in November than the same month a year ago, the unemployment rate dropped over the same period, according to the state Department of Labor.
The St. Lawrence County unemployment rate in November fell to 7.2 percent from 8.1 percent in Nov. 2013. That’s a change of .9 percent.
St. Lawrence County had 3,900 people receiving unemployment benefits, a .5 percent drop from the same month a year ago, when 3,400 people received benefits.
There were 43,300 people working in the county last month, compared to 43,900 in Nov. 2013. That’s a change of .6 percent.
To our east in Franklin County, the unemployment rate was 7 percent in November, a .9 percent shift from Nov. 2013.
To our west in Jefferson County, the rate was 7.5 percent, a 1.3 percent drop from Nov. 2013. The unemployment rate for that county in that month of 2013 was 8.8 percent.
