MASSENA – Fay Motors unexpectedly has been reinstated as a Cadillac dealer after General Motors had told the dealership they couldn’t sell the American luxury car after next year.
“We were supposed to stop selling Cadillacs after October 2010, but we couldn’t even order any 2010s,” said Mike Viskovich of Fay Motors.
“Now we’ll be able to serve the North Country selling Cadillacs again.”
Viskovich said they had been notified in June that Fay Motors was one of the many Cadillac dealerships nationwide that would be dropped from the list as General Motors restructured after bankruptcy.
“We’d also lost Pontiac,” Viskovich said, since GM was dropping that line completely.
“We were floored when we heard we lost Cadillac,” said Viskovich, especially since the dealership had been recognized in 2006 and 2008 as one of the top 100 dealers in the country.
An appeal to GM was turned down, “but we heard they were going to consider service areas for remote areas of the country,” meaning that some former dealers might at least be authorized to do Cadillac service.
Mike’s brother Gill Viskovich went to a meeting n New Jersey on the matter, and ran into a representative of Cadillac the family had known for 30 years. The rep told the brothers to send more information because, especially in light of their recent good performance, they might be considered for the service job.
“We sent the documents, and we got a letter back Oct. 26 saying that we would be reinstated as a full Cadillac dealership,” Mike Viscovich said.
Viscovich said they were surprised but pleased to be able to sell Cadillacs in the North Country as they have for decades.
