New county 'brain gain' organization seeks logo ideas with contest

CANTON – A new young professionals’ organization called The NeXtWave is looking for members, ideas and a snappy logo to announce its presence.
The NeXtWave, an offshoot of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the North Country Symposium, is aimed at connecting and engaging young professionals in the North Country with professional development, community involvement and social activities.
“We look upon creating such an organization as an investment for the future,” said St. Lawrence County Chamber Executive Director Pat McKeown. “It’s not enough to complain about why young people are leaving here. What we have to do is build a reason for them to stay. By creating a social network that provides networking and recreational opportunities, our new young professionals feel right at home.
“The NeXtWave is a way to initiate a ‘Brain Gain’ for the county, and with its social and professional networking, encourage our young talented college students and new professional residents to make their homes here.”
In addition to new members, the organization is seeking a logo which defines its mission and will hold a mini-competition to select the best one.
A new logo will symbolize the mission, purpose and intent of the organization and will be used on marketing and promotional materials, and on a new website which is in the planning stages.
“The design should be creative, concise and easily reproduced. It should reflect professionalism and yet be somewhat playful,” said McKeown.
A color and a black and white version should be submitted to the chamber in PDF format, with the understanding that if the entry is selected it will have to be supplied in various other electronic formats, vector and graphic.
Entries can be sent via email to slccoc@northnet.org or by regular mail by the close of business on Friday, Sept. 26 to the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, 101 Main St., Canton, NY, 13617. Entries should include artist’s name, address, email, and daytime phone. All rights to the logo will become the property of NeXtWave and the county chamber. The winning artist will received a gift basket of locally produced products, including a Potsdam gift certificate, St. Lawrence Chocolates, Nut House International nuts, River Myst Winery wine and other St. Lawrence County products.
