St. Lawrence County’s official unemployment rate for October, 6.9 percent, was up slightly from September, when it stood at 6.8 percent.
According to the latest figures from the state Department of Labor, this October’s count was down 1.1 percent from last year, when the jobless rate was 8 percent.
The number of people working, at 44,000 in October, was actually down from a year ago, when the DOL counted 44,300 people with jobs.
And the raw number of unemployed was also down, from 3, 900 in the county a year ago to 3,200 this October.
To our west in Jefferson County, the unemployment rate rose slightly from September – 6.6 percent – to October, at 7 percent.
To our east in Franklin County, the jobless rate rose one-tenth of a percent from 6.4 percent in September to 6.5 percent in October.
The DOL notes that these figures are not adjusted to reflect seasonal variations, and are subject to revision.
