OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline until Oct. 23 for nominations for 2013 Citizen of the Year award, which will be made at their annual dinner Nov. 8 at the Gran-View.
Some of the past winners are: 2012 Dave Shea, 2011 Glory Martel, 2010 Chuck Kelly, 2009 Keith Robinson, 2008 Ken Cole, 2007 Joe Cosentino, 2006 Debbie Able, 2005 Frank Bateman, 2004 Bill Seymour Jr., 2003 Mort and Marie Backus, 2002 Danny Duprey, 2001 Mr. and Mrs. Frank O’Donoghue and Mr. & Mrs. Robert O’Donoghue, 2000 Sally Palao. The award has been given since 1984.
The chamber is also accepting nominations for the Business Improvement Award, to go to a business that has had a profound positive impact on the community and its appearance by renovating and revitalizing an existing building or area into a thriving business enterprise in which the community can be proud. Some of the past winners are: 2012 Ogdensburg Dance Center and Salon 1020, 2011 Phoenix on the Bay, 2010 White Gate Inn, 2009 Lynn and David Blevins for their Ford Street building, 2008 Parkway Travel Center, 2007, United Helpers, 2006 Ed-Med Federal Credit Union, 2005 Frary Funeral Home.
The chamber also seeks nominations for the Outstanding Community Service Award. Traditionally this award goes to a person or group making a substantial contribution of time, work and philosophies into a project or program benefiting the entire community. Some of the past winners are: 2012 Carlisle, Carrothers and Clough, 2011 Roethel Family, 2010 Jules of Life Foundation, 2009 Ogdensburg Garden Club, 2008 Gail Perkins, Showtime, 2007 CHMC Aux., 2006 Fort laPresentation, 2005 Betty Wood.
