CANTON -- Corning Foundation is helping SUNY Canton promote its science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs by contributing to the college’s Engineers Week and sponsoring a new student position at the college.

The school's second Engineers Week celebration, late in February this year, will include an engineering challenge designed for children grades one to 12. Corning is sponsoring two $1,300 SUNY Canton scholarship for the competition’s first place team.

The entire event is designed to highlight programs in the college’s Canino School of Engineering Technology.

The school has appointed a mechanical engineering technology major as its Corning STEM tutor, the college’s first sponsored tutor position. The tutor is available to help students develop their career-building skills and provide academic assistance to students in any of the engineering technology programs.

“This is the first partnership we’ve ever had to promote tutoring on campus,” said SUNY Canton Director of Tutoring Services Johanna Lee said. “Our tutor will work closely with a Corning Inc. representative to develop a list of skills that are directly related to employment after college, which helps us continue our career-driven mission.”
