Congressional candidate Doheny doubles goal of visiting 50 businesses in 50 days

It is no guarantee of his future performance as a lawmaker, but congressional candidate Matt Doheny has doubled his campaign goal of visiting 50 businesses in 50 days.

Seven weeks ago, Doheny, the Watertown Republican vying to unseat Democrat Bill Owens for the 21st Congressional District seat, kicked off his “50 Businesses, 50 Days” tour with the intent of talking to 50 business owners in key sectors about the challenges they face in the current economic climate.

Last Thursday – the tour’s 46th day -- Doheny visited his 100th business.

“Jobs are the top concern of the people in this district, so I decided to head straight to the source: the fine men and women who run businesses in the 21st Congressional District,” said Doheny, the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties’ candidate.

“Many of them were candid in telling me of the barriers to job creation: the cost of complying with seemingly endless government mandates; increases in taxes while profit margins shrink; and the cost of labor, of health care, and of energy, to name a few.

“I used these insights to create a series of ‘prescriptions’ that encompass the major sectors of our economy: agriculture, health care, communications and technology, tourism, service and construction and manufacturing. These policy plans tell voters in plain language what I’m going to do to help create a favorable economic climate for job growth in the north country, Adirondacks and capital region.”

“The 50 days may soon be coming to an end, but my jobs tour will continue to Election Day, he said.
