MASSENA -- The Town Council voted to accept a $968,499 bid from Con-Tech Building Systems to build a new 10-bay tee hangar at Massena International Airport. They awarded the electrical work contract to Jordstat Construction, they bid $130,653.
Most of the cost will come from Federal Aviation Administration grants.
The bid comes in higher than Supervisorr Joseph Gray’s initial estimate, he said in October that the building would cost $850,000.
The town has sunk $135,000 into the job. They had to put pylons into the ground because it isn’t solid enough and a slab on its own would shift.
The airport should see several other improvements this year. Aviation Drive is going to be resurfaced, nearby trees and other obstructions will be cleared so airplanes have a clear path to take off and land.
