Sales tax collections in St. Lawrence County in 2013 increased between three and six percent over 2012, according to a report from the office of the state comptroller.
This past December, St. Lawrence County’s local sales tax rate increased from three to four percent, perhaps accounting for some of the increase.
Statewide collections were up by $739 million, or 5.2 percent, in 2013.
To our east, in Franklin County, the increase was less than three percent.
Many counties actually saw declines in 2013, including Jefferson County, to our west, where the decline was less than three percent.
The only counties outside of the New York City area that saw increases of six percent or more were Essex, Hamilton and Washington counties.
