The Claxton-Hepburn Convenient Care Center will be staffed with nurse practitioners and physician assistants, with Dr. Christopher Comeau as medical director.

It will provide non-emergency care to people of all ages Monday through Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Walk-ins will be welcome. Appointments can be made by calling 393-1715. Most insurances and Medicare will be accepted, according to a press release from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.

“The need for primary care has grown in the North Country,” the release said. “A high quality convenient care center like Claxton-Hepburn’s is essential to ensure proper treatment for non-life threatening illnesses or injuries.”

The center will provide care for the most common ailments such as colds and flu, sore throats, earaches, abrasions and minor lacerations, strains and sprains, burns, urinary tract infections, non-emergency allergic reactions, asthma, insect bites, and rashes. It will also provide in-house testing for flu, mono, strep, and pregnancy as well as blood draws, immunizations, and DOT physicals.

“Our goal is to provide immediate care to adults and children with minor, acute illness outside of the traditional office hours,” said Clinical Practice Manager Kim Colburn. “We will be working collaboratively with the patient’s primary care providers to ensure continuity of care.”

“The new trends in health care are focusing less on inpatient care and more on preventive medicine,” said Claxton-Hepburn Chief Executive Officer Nate Howell. “Opening this center now, is the right thing to do at the right time.”
