POTSDAM – The University Bookstore at 39 Market St. is about to undergo a major renovation to include a café and comfortable seating.

Owner Clarkson University and operator Follett Higher Education Group are planning a floor-to-ceiling makeover, with cherry wood fixtures and custom cabinetry, and redesign of the layout to highlight the selections of textbooks, general reading books, supplies, and Clarkson apparel and gift items in the 4,800-square-foot store.

The offerings will include items that are specific to the North Country.

They believe it will “enhance the overall shopping experience” for customers.

“The new layout also features convenient register placement to minimize long lines during busy back-to-school seasons so students can browse the bookstore’s variety of affordable textbook options and complete their purchase in a timely manner,” said store manager John Hennessey.

A grand re-opening celebration is tentatively scheduled for early April, when the renovations are due to be done.

In the meantime, the University Bookstore, as of March 12, will move temporarily to 15 Market Street with a wide selection of general reading and merchandise.

The University Bookstore is the official off-campus bookstore for Clarkson University and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
