POTSDAM -- J.R. Westons, Inc., the tax-paying subsidiary of Clarkson University, has received a $50,000 grant from the state to make improvements at their building at 39 Market St.
The grant, matched dollar-for-dollar by the corporation, will cover the cost of replacing second- and third-floor windows in the offices and apartments above the University Bookstore and painting the building's cornice.
The funds have been awarded through a New York Main Street Program (NYMS) grant the village applied for and received a couple of years ago for the rehabilitation of downtown commercial buildings, according to the Director of the Potsdam Planning and Development Office Fred Hanss.
In its past, the building housed Fishman’s Department Store.
Trezza Realty received a similar grant in the fall to replace windows at the Arlington Hotel.
