WEST POTSDAM — The one-room schoolhouse that was formerly Mom’s Schoolhouse Diner reopened as a Christian bookstore.

Dick and Sharon Bastille, owners of the building, are embarking on their next goal in life: Retirement.

They are the former owners and operators the diner that operated for over a decade and closed four years ago when Sharon retired. Dick is now retired from his carpentry business.

Together they are opening Tree of Life Christian Bookstore and also own and operate Rose of Sharon Bed and Breakfast in Norwood.

Tree of Life will have retirement hours to start with, that is, it will be open Thursday - Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The store, seeking to encourage the faith community in their spiritual growth, will sell books, Bibles, music and gifts for special occasions.

The store will also host workshops and classes that include the art of storytelling and developing Sunday school lessons, bringing forth fruit in old age, the art of practical hospitality, keeping love live in a marriage, home and time management, book discussions, and more.

There will be a suggestions box at the store for ideas.

The store will hold its grand opening April 12 at 809 CR 34.
