COLTON – BLB Hauling of Colton has been sold to Casella Waste Systems.
Owner Loren LaPierre says his business had grown considerably since he bought a small one-truck operation in 1997, and that things were going well, but that it had reached a point where a “major investment” would have been required to meet new rules.
“They made me the right offer, and gave me a management position, and they hired two of my drivers,” LaPierre said.
“Major changes had to come,” he said, if he were to keep his six-truck waste hauling business going. New rules regarding trucks and recycling would have cost him time and money, and he was willing to do it, but Casella came along with their offer at the right time.
LaPierre said he has been running three trucks, and up to six during the summer.
Casella is operating put of a depot on the West Parishville Road in the town of Potsdam.
