Canton ‘Downtown Stomp’ for students and businesses set for Sept. 17

CANTON -- All Canton businesses are invited to participate in the second annual “Downtown Stomp,” which takes place Saturday, Sept. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m.

The main goal of this event is to draw college students through the doors of local businesses and organizations. It’s an opportunity to increase awareness of all that the village of Canton has to offer.

This year, the event is being funded entirely by the St. Lawrence University North Country Ambassadors and SUNY Canton Student Activities Office.

Here’s how it works: Students will be given a “passport” to present at participating businesses along with their student ID. Businesses will then stamp the spot beside their business name with stickers that are provided by the event coordinators (at no cost to the business!).

Students with fully stamped passports can enter into a drawing to win one of six Canton shopping spree gift certificates donated by the Canton Chamber of Commerce, plus other exciting prizes.

The Downtown Stomp will even provide transportation to the businesses located at the outer edges of town! This event is designed to be fun and profitable.

In addition to the passport activity, there will be a field day with games and music in the village green.

Any business in Canton is invited to participate, and Canton Chamber of Commerce members may also participate. For those businesses outside of the village, or without a storefront, there will be space available in the village green.

The deadline for businesses to sign up for this event is Wednesday, Aug. 10. To have your business listed on the student passport you must sign up to participate! For information or to sign up, contact Sally Hill at the Canton Chamber of Commerce, 386-8255, cantoncc@northnet.org.
