Canton businessman David C. Patterson has been elected as the new chairman of Community Bank System, Inc.

Patterson is president and owner of Wight and Patterson, Inc., a manufacturer and seller of livestock feed in Canton.

Patterson started his association with Community Bank as a board member of St. Lawrence National Bank, the founding member of Community Bank N.A., in 1984. Since then, he has served on nearly all of the board committees, including the Executive/Strategic Committee, and most recently as chairman of the Loan/ALCO Committee. Patterson is following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Charles Wight, who served as director of the St. Lawrence National Bank in the 1940s.

Community Bank System, Inc. is a registered bank holding company based in Dewitt, near Syracuse, with $5.3 billion in assets and approximately 160 customer facilities. Its wholly-owned banking subsidiary operates as Community Bank, N.A. across Upstate New York, and as First Liberty Bank & Trust throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
