CANTON -- A sports-themed café will soon open on Main Street offering a large salad bar, burgers, Panini sandwiches and other in and out casual food.

Buster’s Sports Bar of Ogdensburg will open its second location, Buster’s Sports Café, 109 Main St., sometime between May 20 and May 31.

“We’ve been in business in Ogdensburg for 20 years and thought Canton was a unique community in need of a sports-themed atmosphere with casual food,” said owner Terry Vernsey.

The new eatery will feature a 17-foot salad bar that will offer several varieties of lettuce, fresh vegetables and fruit, salads, rolls and soups. All fruit and veggies and cut fresh daily.

“We put the salad bar in Ogdensburg about four years ago and it has been a huge success…and Canton doesn't have anything like it around,” he said.

“We had to build the salad bar, but other than that we did not have to do too much construction to the building,” he said.

The café will sport six or seven big screen television and will be decorated with sports memorabilia. There is no bar in the café due to space reasons, but alcohol will be available.

Vernsey said the new Buster’s plans to offer their popular zingers which are made from fresh boneless chicken loin and smothered in one of six sauces. Choices range from mild to hot and others.

“When my wife (Laurie) and I would come to Canton to eat, we always ended up at the same places…so we saw the need,” he said.

Laurie will run the day-to-day operations.

“Panini sandwiches were chosen because we can cook them fast,” Vernsey said. “We will have five or six options for customers to choose from.”

To round out the meal, homemade desserts will be offered including brownies.

“We are looking for more staff…we expected to employ about 12 to 18 people and maybe more if we decide to offer delivery,” he said.

“We want to appeal to people on their lunch hour and be able to get them their food quickly so they are in and out,” he said.
