1. The price for gas is sickening. But even more nausiating is the fact that we all stand for it. American society has lost the one characteristic that makes this country truly unique-our refusal to be stand for injustice. "Well, europeans pay more that us" or "times are changing" or "that's just the world we live in now-a-days" are just pathetic excuses because no one wants to act. We all talk but do nothing as long as we look good in our Ford Excursions or Chevy Avalanches. And how backwards in the US government?-let's send out money to people to help the economy?-money that will be spent filling our gas tanks. If you want the economy to get better, lower gas prices. With lower gas prices people will eagerly travel and spend all kinds of money. Wake up, stop complaining, and act. Mon, 5/12/08 10:39 AM

We live on a fixed, retirement income and also grew up at the end of the great depression and find that except for people that have a long commute to work the gas price is forcing people to use commom sense to their lifesyle . Even those of us that make a substantial amount of money are tending to struggle. I cannot afford to trade in my vehicle for an economy one. For the few that work for a living in this county, we must rely on our personal vehicles to get us there. Don't count on the Federal or State governments to bail you out on this one. You'll just have to decide where to reduce your spending or get a higher paying job. Oops. There aren't many jobs because St. Lawrence County doesn't want more jobs. Recently, a serious personal relationship decision of mine included consideration of the reality that I needed to be nearer to the village, so I could save money on fuel, while still being close to my son's many activities in town. I really shudder to think how subsistence level folks are getting by right now. We are not yet sseeing the real extent of the damage of these high gas prices. It's easier to split gas 3 ways rather than 1 way! My credit card debt has also gone up due to purchasing items I need online instead of driving. The whole thing is disgusting we are being strangled people, wake up and start complaining--the liars! Tue, 5/6/08 8:41 AM
114. The high price of gasoline here is still a bargain compared to other nations. However, it does point out the stagnant wages in this country, especially after 7 years of the Bush Administration. We need to have energy security, which does not mean invading other nations to steal their oil. (Why did God put our oil under their sand, anyway?) But it is well past time to stop the windfall profits on the part of Big Oil and redirect our national attention to renewables and alternates. There are millions to be saved in this county alone from energy efficiency, weather-stripping, creating more and better opportunities for public transportation, and a serious look at regional fuel production. But we have too many politicians and not enough leaders. Tue, 5/6/08 8:40 AM
