Brookfield warns anyone using Norwood Lake for recreation to use caution

NORWOOD -- Brookfield Renewable is warning those who use Norwood Lake for recreation to use caution when on the pond.

Recreational activities could include snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and any other activities that involve being on the lake this winter.

The company wants to make the public aware of this issue due to conditions on the reservoir, which was drawn down this fall to complete maintenance repairs at the dam.

Due to the draw-down and low water levels, people may encounter hazards from debris in the waterway that they may not have encountered in the past, a press release from Brookfield said. While this may lead to particular dangers to snowmobiles, it poses a risk to those who may be on the lake for other recreational activities as well.

As Brookfield Renewable looks to raise water levels in the coming weeks, a new hazard also has the potential to appear. This is due to the fact that although the reservoir may appear frozen on the surface, moving water underneath could pose significant risk of danger to people.

If anyone has questions or concerns, they are encouraged to contact Julie Pelletier at Inquiries.NY@brookfieldrenewable.com or 518-615-9357
