Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers recruiting apprentices in Canton

OGDENSBURG -- The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union 2, are recruiting five bricklayer, mason and plasterer apprentices.

Applications can be obtained at the St. Lawrence One-Stop Career Center, 80 State Highway 310, Suite 8, Canton, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Completed applications should be sent to Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union # 2, 312 Pratt Street, Watertown, NY 13601. All applications must be received by no later than May 31, 2012. For more info, contact your nearest New York State Department of Labor office or call Local Union # 2 at 788-4774.

The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.

* Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by the ability to lift 50-100 lbs.

* Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.

* Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.

* Must be a six month resident of Local Union #2's geographic jurisdiction as follows: All of St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis Counties, except the Lewis County townships of Constableville, Port Leyden, Lyons Falls, Turin and Redfield.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
