POTSDAM -- B99.3 FM teamed and the Potsdam Elks Lodge are hoping to collect 10,000 candy bars for retiring soldiers.

Thursday the radio station and Elks members were posted at Grant's Grocery in Potsdam collecting the treats.

"Upon returning home from deployment soldiers are debriefed on base for a long period of time, unable to see their families. During this time they make few requests including a candy bar," a press release from organizers said.

"Last year, thanks to the generous support of the North Country and surrounding communities, the Elks delivered 7,500 candy bars to the Fort Drum USO. This year they have set the goal of delivering 10,000."

Candy bars or cash donations can be dropped off throughout the month of March at the Potsdam Elks Lodge 10 Elm St.

Todd and Mary will broadcast live and collect donations at Save-A-Lot in Potsdam on March 13, Kunoco Mini Mart in Canton on March 20 and Brewer Book Store, St. Lawrence University on March 27 all broadcasts are from noon to 2 p.m.

For more information contact the Potsdam Elks Lodge at 265-2074 or Mary Charleston at 566-9058.
