The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County is down for the third straight month, according to figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor.
The jobless rate in the county stood at 9.8 percent in April, down a full point from the 10.8 percent recorded in March, and down 2.3 percent from January’s figure of 12.1 percent.
This April’s rate is also better than the rate in April of last year, when it stood at 10.2 percent.
The unemployment rate in neighboring Franklin and Jefferson counties has fallen by similar amounts.
To our east in Franklin County, April’s jobless rate was 9.7 percent, dropping from a 10.6 percent rate in March, and equaling the 9.7 percent rate of April 2012.
In Jefferson County, to our west, the rate for April was 10.3 percent, down from 11.4 percent in March, up a bit from the rate in April 2012 of 10.2 percent.
The DOL notes that the April figures are subject to revision, and have not been adjusted for seasonal variables.
