POTSDAM -- A second dominant long-time downtown business will close in August as Wear on Earth announced it is going out of business.

The closure comes less than one year after Northern Music & Video, one of downtown Potsdam’s major retailers, announced its closure.

The store will discount merchandise until it closes the doors for the final time Aug. 1.

Wear on Earth opened in 1978 offering men's and women's outdoor clothing, gear for biking, skiing, snowshoeing, running, cycling, hiking, camping, kayaking and more.

Wear on Earth posted a statement on their Facebook page:

"Over the past 37 years, the company supplied the community with the area’s largest selection of bicycles, skis, hiking shoes, apparel, and other outdoor/adventure gear.

It is with great sadness we announce that on Thursday, July 9th, 2015, Wear On Earth will begin closing its doors. The store closing event will involve significant discounts on all merchandise ending with the store’s official closing.

We want to thank our customers and our wonderful employees for supporting our business. We have such a connection to this community and are depressed to have to close our doors. We hope customers take advantage of the sale event, which will feature extraordinary savings on all our products."
