Airbnb has announced that the service has generated more than $400,000 for St. Lawrence County property owners in 2018.

The company says that about 110 St. Lawrence County facilities owners hosted about 4,000 guest arrivals in 2018, earning each host on average $3,500 annually in supplemental income for a total of $462,100.

Airbnb, which describes itself as the world’s leading community driven hospitality company, is a San Francisco-based global company that, for a fee, matches up facilities owners, such a homeowners, with travelers looking for a place to stay, among other services.

“Throughout 2018, the home sharing community has provided significant value to North Country communities during big events, such as the summer tourism boom and ski season,” the company’s announcement said.

The company says it is generating new revenue through tax agreements that allow Airbnb to collect and remit local taxes on behalf of its hosts. Airbnb has reached such agreements with four counties in the North Country -- St. Lawrence, Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties – and others around the state, remitting more than $2.7 million in local taxes statewide.
