After major renovation, University Bookstore reopens in downtown Potsdam; grand re-opening April 19-21

POTSDAM – The University Bookstore has reopened at 39 Market St. following a floor-to ceiling renovation including the addition of a café and comfortable seating.

The new interior of the 4,800 square foot store features cherry wood fixtures and custom cabinetry with a layout designed to highlight the textbooks, general reading books, supplies, and Clarkson apparel and gift items.

The store had been operating out of 15 Market St. during the renovation.

A grand re-opening celebration is scheduled for April 19 to 21 and will feature a variety of events, in addition to an appearance by the Golden Knight Clarkson University mascot daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Thursday, the Lisbon Central Band will perform from 11 a.m. to noon; local artist Charinee Charleston will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a ribbon cutting takes place at noon; and the Golden Knights Clarkson student a capella group performs at 1 p.m.

On Friday, Jane Subramanian and Virginia Rose Cayey, authors of “State University of New York at Postdam” will appear at a book-signing from 1 to 2 p.m.; guitarist Chris Whalen will perform from 2 to 3 p.m.; and St. Lawrence Chocolates will offer a chocolate and candy sampling from 3 to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, the Clarkson University step team, Organized Chaos, will appear from 11 a.m. to noon; artist Charleston will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a children’s reading of “Cat in the Hat” takes place at 12:30 p.m.; Cubby T. Clown and Company presents magic and balloon animals from 1 to 3 p.m.; the Clarkson University Student Robotics Club will present a demonstration from 2 to 3 p.m.; and author Cheri Farnsworth will appear from 3 to 4 p.m.
