Mae A. Ferris, 100, Massena

MASSENA -- Mae A. Ferris, 100, formerly of Massena, peacefully passed away at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home in Watertown, NY, on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Mae was born on March 25, 1924, in Fort Covington, NY, to Joseph and Sylvia (Saumier) LeBlanc.

She attended school in Fort Covington, graduating in 1942, and later pursued studies at the Adirondack School of Commerce in Malone.

In 1944, she married Arthur H. Ferris in Fort Covington, with the late Rev. Dufort officiating.

Arthur and Mae raised their family in Heuvelton, NY, before relocating to Massena in 1972.

Mae worked for many years as a secretary at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, retiring in 1983.

Active in various community organizations, Mae participated in Home Bureau, TOPS, and the Red Hats.

She cherished moments spent playing cards, attending shows, traveling, and socializing with friends.

Mae had a passion for crafting, particularly sewing and quilting, and lovingly created quilts for each of her grandchildren.

Mae is survived by her children, Deborah (Robert) James of The Villages, FL, David (Linda) Ferris of Ogdensburg, NY, and Robin (John) Jodoin of Cicero, NY, along with 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Arthur H. Ferris, on January 19, 2013, her daughter, Nancy (Terry) Hammond in April 2022, and her parents and siblings, Clarence, Hector, and Ernest LeBlanc, Leah Rubadeau, and Ruth Avery.

Friends and family may pay their respects at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews Street, Massena, NY, on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Judy Van Kennen.

Entombment will follow at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum in Ogdensburg, NY.
