GOUVERNEUR — Neighbors fought into the streets March 22 resulting in charges for one and injuries for another, according to village police.

Police said they responded to Johnstown Street after two neighbors engaged in a fight that afternoon.

David J. New, 45, was charged with second-degree harassment for allegedly punching his neighbor multiple times, police said.

Later that day, a second incident reportedly took place where the two subjects reportedly fought into the street, creating a public hazard to traffic, officers said.

New reportedly struck his neighbor with a wooden post during the altercation and caused the victim to suffer a fractured ulna in their arm.

Police charged New with second-degree assault, felony, and disorderly conduct at 3:30 p.m., police said.

He was arraigned before Gouverneur Town Court and released under supervision of probation, officers said.
